2015 Season - Week 17 (Cont 1)

The Conference Story

Since week 8 the top two positions have never changed with California winning the Conference by 21 points from The Misunderstood, Wayne’s first Conference title in two promotion seasons. Going into the last week Dave G was15 behind Wayne and 89 points ahead of Cheryl in third, so the battle was all about the final promotion spot where Cheryl led Stampy by just six points. Before the first quarter in the early games was out David had levelled things up through Pierre Garcon’s TD catch. Two Ryan Tannehill TDs put Karori six points ahead but when Pittsburgh won Rhodesia levelled the scores again courtesy of Cheryl’s coach Mike Tomlin. Cheryl re-took the lead on a Brandon McManus PAT but a Sebastian Janikowski Field Goal returned David to third place. With 12 mins left in the 2nd quarter of the second games Cam Newton scored on a one yard run and the promotion spot changed for a fifth and final time. Newton & McManus outscored Janikowski by 22 points and Rhodesia was not only the week’s top scorer but now took that 22 point advantage into the final regular season game where they had Stefon Diggs going up against Karori’s Adrian Peterson and Mike McCarthy. Peterson scored a TD early in the third quarter but that was all of the scoring for both owners and so Cheryl is promoted 16 points clear of David S. BUMS Team of December Across the 4 weeks (13-16) of December’s games the best BUMS team scored 264 points with one franchise player in it and (in a fitting tribute to the Weymouth Bay Bargaineers) cost just $4.5 million. To put this in perspective the highest Premiership team in November was Willoughby Wolves with 146 points while in the Conference the Misunderstood scored a month’s best 165. Head Coach of the month is Todd Bowles (Bastards & Jets) scoring 24 points for just $0.5. Bruce Arians (Misunderstood & Arizona) also scored 24 but he costs $1m. California & Arizona kicker Chandler Catanzaro scored 38 points for $1m (the only player on the team that didn’t cost $0.5m). December’s QB Blake Bortles scored 52 playing for Phoenix & Jacksonville and RBs David Johnson (Weymouth & Arizona) and DeAngelo Williams (Gang Green & Pittsburgh) both scored 30pts. At receiver Allen Robinson (Westmorland & Jacksonville) scored six TDs, Leamington’s franchise man Antonio Brown (Steelers) scored 30 and Golden Tate (Tring & Detroit) scored 24pts. Also scoring 24 but costing more were Jeremey Maclin (Misunderstood & Kansas City - $1m), Brandon Marshall (Perivale & Jets franchised at $2m) & Odell Beckham Jnr. (California & Giants - $3m). Bargaineers Bowing Out As John Botten played his final regular season weekend his Bargaineers have done him proud this season. Playing without a kicker (as his Franchise kicker was put on IR in the pre-season) and John refused to spend more than his Bargaineers $4m, John ended the season on 293 points (well beyond his target and not even one of the ten worst scores in a season). If he had replaced Shaun Suisham with Pittsburgh replacement kicker Chris Boswell, so getting his 113 points, Weymouth would have finished on 406 and just 18 points behind third in the Conference. It took the first four weeks at the start of the season for John to amass just 44 points but in December he got that total in a single week, again remember without a kicker. In fact in December he scored 122 points and in one fortnight (weeks 15&16) scored 74 points, the most in the Conference and third highest overall in that two week period.
